The Purity Issue

One argument that some people throw out to argue against the use of green cleaning products is that they don’t get the home as clean as chemical-based products would get it. To listen to these critics talk (or write on blogs) could give you the impression that products that don’t include harsh chemicals leave your home filthy with bacteria and dangerous germs growing everywhere.

This is the furthest thing from the truth imaginable! The fact is no cleaning product can ever make your home complete pure and free from dirt and germs of all varieties. Even the harshest, strongest chemical products from the stores can leave some germs and bacteria in the home, especially if surfaces are not scrubbed down on a consistent basis.

When you compare the best green products to many of the most popular chemical-based products you find that they are just as effective and in some instances more effective. The catch is cleaning often and thoroughly, no matter what you use.

Another argument is that green cleaning products can include some not-so-green ingredients. For most people getting as green as possible is the goal, but if you are insistent on knowing every ingredient and ensuring they are not harmful, you can always fall back on mixing your own vinegar water.

Know Your Purpose

What green products you purchase may be determined by the reasons you have for purchasing them to begin with. If your goal is just to get away from chemicals which someone in your home is allergic to, then products that just don’t use those ingredients may be good enough for you.

If you are concerned with the environment then you will likely want to research ingredients in all of the “green” products you find and make sure they are in line with your stance on the environment.

If your concern is just with protecting your family from chemicals that are used in commercial cleaning products or if you need to save money, then using vinegar mixed with water and some baking soda may be just the thing for you.

No matter what your concerns are, it’s highly unlikely that using overpriced chemical-based products will make you feel secure and at ease. If you aren’t sure whether green products are the right choice for you do some research into your favorite cleaning products and see what ingredients you are spraying into the air of your home. It could be an eye-opening experience.

Ingredient research is the first step in determine what green cleaning products are right for your home. If you don’t know what you are squirting into the air, why would you want to inhale it? Why trust products that you aren’t certain about with your children in the home?

It may take some work at first to research different products and learn about green ingredients, but in the end you will find products you really like and learn to make some products that you love.
